● Nagios

The monitoring possibilities with Nagios are end-less, it is almost save to say that everything that has a network cable connected to it (or even wireless) can be monitored in some way or another. Also the depth and detail of monitoring is supported by the SNMP stacks the peripheral supports. These can range from:

  • Temperature of the equipment
  • Humidity in your server room
  • Air-Con running
  • Door open/close
To monitor such parameters you need to deploy additional monitoring hardware on top of your current Nagios appliance

We at intuit propose to use the products from ITWATCHDOGS to monitor these kind a parameters. Nagios will pull all the data from the environment monitors sensors and display the values in the standard Nagios web-interface

By default Nagios is alerting you via -mail in case something starts to go wrong with your systems. In many cases this form of communication is not fast and reliable enough, therefore we always recommend to deploy a SMS notification solution.

This can be done in form of simple SMS / GPRS Modem or via a SMS-Server in your organization, depending on the size of your Nagios deployment as well as the amount of SMS sent out.

Supergoose

Low-cost temperature, power, air flow, and other environment monitoring for your server room. Containing an internal web server this unit operates completely stand-alone with no supporting PC or client software required. Internal sensors include temperature, humidity, air flow, light level, and sound level, plus three analog input ports. An internal 5 port serial port hub makes adding remote sensors easy. The user needs only a Web Browser to view the environment conditions. The unit creates internal HTML (Web) pages, e-mail and paging alerts. A full SNMP MIB is included. One WxGoos-1 can monitor 16 remote sensors. A small plug-in wall transformer provides power. The SuperGoose is integrated into a 19" 1-U high rack mounted panel

Sensors

Combo Temperature, Humidity, & Air Flow Sensor
Three separate sensors in one 4" tube. Up to 16 of these can be attached to any Goose monitor. Use a splitter to expand the number of jacks. Ships with clamp-style mounting clip.

Remote Temperature and Airflow Sensor
Connect up to 16 of these small combined sensor units to get complete climate monitoring in hard to reach places. Put one next to a fan and be alerted the minute it stops

Remote Temperature Sensor
Up to 16 temperature probes can be placed in hot spots. Stick one in the cabinet inlet and one in the outlet to diagnose air-flow problems. Put one in the A/C vent to detect problems at the source. Accurate to +/-0.5°C

CCAT Sensor
Converts an analog sensor into a digital sensor that can be connected to a 1-wire port. Useful for units that don't have an I/O port(like the MiniGoose) or for adding additional analog sensors to a unit that does. The CCAT needs to be programmed for the type of analog sensor that will be connected to it. When ordering select please choose one of the following types: water, door contact, current transformer, or millivolt

WaterSnake Water Detection Cable
Put this cable around the periphery of your server room or around data cabinets and get early warning of water entry. Get an e-mail or page when water hits. Comes with wall mounted control box. Uses two Weather or SuperGoose I/O ports. Reports when the cable is wet, disconnected or faulty.

Door Sensor
This simple magnetic sensor detects when the cabinet door is open. Get an e-mail with a web-cam photo attached when the door opens and see who is messing with your gear.

Smoke Sensor
Know when smoke invades your room. The kit contains a standard Kidde sensor plus all the wiring to connect to a SuperGoose

Water Sensor
Detect rising water before it ruins your gear. Connects to the I/O ports

Power Egg
Update existing power strips with this in-line power meter. By inserting the meter between the power source (typically a power strip) and the power source (wall plug or PDU) you can easily learn amps, volts, watts and power factor. The values are continually displayed in bright red LED numerals. The standard EGG0-IEC uses C13 and C14 connectors. A kit EGG0-NEMA adds two North American style connectors for 5-15 NEMA connectors. A cord and adaptor easily convert the unit to typical power strip connectors. Using these connectors the EGG0 is rated at 15 amps

City Power Sensor

Plugs into a standard outlet. Alerts you when city power is lost, so you know how long the UPS has been on. Connects to the I/O port on the WeatherGoose, SuperGoose and WeatherDuck.
